The Process: Phases of a project

Process-->Phases of a project

Research
In the research phase we aim to find out as much information as possible about your business and your market. Areas we will delve into may include how your business runs, your customers and your competitors. We use this information to develop our strategy.
Strategy
Strategy is the engine that drives a business to success. So it forms the foundation of my process. During this phase we work together to determine the key issues - market, message and method. We work out the audience we want to reach, determine the core message we are delivering and decide the best wasy to deliver the message and reach the audience.
Marketing
We use the questions we answered in the startegy phase to develop a marketing plan. This mayy be as simple as how we promote your website or it could involve planning the elments of a joint off-line/online campaign.
People
Nothing happens without the people to do it. Rather than finishing the project and leaving you to your own devices, I like to work with you to determine how the project will be managed and who will do what, both during the project and after delivery.
Planning
Planning includes setting out project duration, a detailed schedule of completion and delvery dates, agreeing on key deliverables, budget, technical requirements, targets and benchmarks.
Content
As the content is vital for any communication project, this phase involves working what content is needed and how it will be structured. This could mean determining the copy for an ad or structuring a website.
Concept
Effective communication and results-driven design relies on a clear concept. This is where the research and planning really kick in, helping us to flesh out look, feel, how to grab attention and communicate the core message.
Design
Depending on the project, the design phase may involve several reworkings of the design as we hone the concept and the design.
Production
Production is the nuts and bolts stuff. For a print job, it's a matter of choosing the right printer. For a website, it's the crucial phase of building the site correctly, with all the features required and to technical specification.
Testing
If you want to know if something really works you have to test it. Depending on the actual project, some measure of testing will occur before, during and after a job is completed.
Delivery
Many suppliers may stop right here - e.g. "Now we have delivered a top notch website for you. We can see how delighted you are. Enjoy the site and have a nice life!". But delivery is not the end of the project. The point of any project (at least the ones you hire me to work on) is to deliver specified outcomes. So delivery is really when we get to see if the fruits of our labor pay off. Because I build my reputation on the results I achieve for clients, I take post-delivery follow-up very seriously.
Feedback
I use a formal feedback process and as well as informally checking in with clients to see how things are going. I also allow for a period of post-delivery support and training and do a written perfomance evaluation report (on the webite, advertising campaign etc.) at the end of this period.
